About kristin hamilton

Kristin Hamilton is a singer songwriter who’s voice has been described as “one that stirs the soul”. Based out of St. Joseph, MO, she performs as a solo artist as well as part of folk/ country/ bluegrass groups; Under The Big Oak Tree, Lost Cowgirl Revue, and Lucy Gray & The Blue House Family Band. Kristin’s original songs touch upon topics of family & faith, grief & gratitude, and will leave you with a warm heart.

Hamilton grew up singing at the spontaneous musical get-togethers on her family’s farm in northwest Missouri. Extended family would gather under a big old oak on summer night’s to sing and play old country and gospel numbers. Describing herself as “the shy one” in the bunch she finally got brave enough to accept an invitation to get up and sing at church which then led to an invitation to play a show at a local wine tasting. Accompanied by her father and accomplished guitar player, Rocky Cathcart, the show was such a great success it let to another invitation and eventually to the formation of Acoustic Folk/ Country Roots band, Under The Big Oak Tree, formed by some of the best musicians in the area: Simon Fink, Doug Ward and Jason Riley. Under The Big Oak Tree went on to release three full length albums which have all been listed as Kansas City area favorites, including their latest 2018 release titled, The Ark. The Ark features two of Kristin’s original songs, “Daytime Moon” and “Dear Brother” which have earned repeated spins on local NPR radio shows in and around the Kansas City area. In 2018 Kristin joined forces with acclaimed singer songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, Julie Bennett Hume, Joy Zimmerman, and Jenna Rae for a special tour of Germany, the Netherlands, and France. Since returning they’ve added finger style classical guitarist, Chris Hudson and have entertained audiences with their unique brand of Folk-Americana layered with vocal harmonies, guitars, fiddle, banjo, washboard & spoons rhythm and joyous energy.
