Koan

Koan is a stoner grunge hard rock band that was formed in Ticino in 2006 by members from different music scenes, as often happens. The band offers a genre of music called "grunge-cross-core". The range spans from grunge to core, thus encompassing all the musical influences that accompanied the founding members through their different musical experiences and personal growth. The first album, entitled ¿Freedom? (recorded at Black Dog Studio in Lugano CH), was released in March 2007; the 13 tracks are reminiscent of Seattle grunge combined with compactness and ruggedness. The album was mastered by Tom Hutten of Bionic Mastering Studio in New York. A number of prestigious magazines gave positive reviews of the band’s first work (Metal.de and Metal Hammer Italy and Spain). The following year, the band returned to the studio for their second album. Broken was recorded in June 2008 at Stairway Studio in Melano CH, which again collaborated with Tom Hutten on the mastering. Broken was released in April 2009 and marked a change at the compositional level; heavy parts were interwoven with melodic parts, which would become the band’s signature sound. In 2010, partly by chance and partly for fun, the band decided they wanted to revisit their own songs as acoustic tracks. The band thus plays a series of acoustic concerts and decided to go back to the studio (“Stairway Studio” in Melano – CH); A Session was thus created, which was released on the 11.11.2011 and contained 9 tracks (included the previously unreleased J). The following year was dedicated to promoting this album, including numerous rotation stages at various radio stations. In 2014, driven by the need to experiment with new creative routes, the band chose Pietro Foresti as their producer and artistic producer. With him they recorded their 4th album, Agropyron Repens, in a way that was totally new for the band: no professional studio, no overdubbing, no artificial sound. Instead, the band recorded the album in an intense week of live sessions at their own studio, Koan L Studio. The result is a direct, no frills album with a big impact. La band propone un genere di musica definito " grunge-cross-core". Il percorso parte dal grunge arrivando fino al core, e racchiudendo quindi tutte le influenze musicali che hanno accompagnato i componenti della formazione attraverso le loro differenti esperienze musicali e di crescita personale. Il primo album intitolato "¿Freedom?" (registrato presso “Black Dog Studio” di Lugano - CH) prende luce nel Marzo 2007; 13 tracce nelle quali riecheggia il Grunge di Seattle unito a compattezza e ruvidità; Il mastering dell'album viene affidato a Tom Hutten del Bionic Mastering Studio di New York. Diverse prestigiose riviste recensiscono positivamente il primo lavoro della band (Metal.de e Metal Hammer Italia e Spagna). L'anno successivo la band torna in studio per il loro secondo lavoro. "Broken" viene registrato a Giugno 2008 presso lo “Stairway Studio” di Melano - CH, il quale collaborerà nuovamente con Tom Hutten per il mastering. Broken esce ad Aprile 2009 e segna un cambiamento a livello compositivo: parti dure si intrecciano a parti melodiche, esattamente ciò che diventerà marchio di fabbrica della band. Nel 2010, un po' per caso e un po' per gioco, nasce nella band la volontà di rivisitare i propri brani in acustico. Così la band suona una serie di concerti acustici, decidendo di tornare in studio (“Stairway Studio” di Melano – CH): nasce così "A-Session", presentato l'11-11-'11, in cui vengono incisi 9 brani (compresa l'inedita "J"). L'anno successivo è dedicato alla promozione di questo album grazie anche a molti passaggi in rotazione su diverse radio. Nel 2014 spinti dall'esigenza di sperimentare nuovi percorsi creativi, scelgono Pietro Foresti in qualità di produttore e produttore artistico. Con lui registrano "Agropyron Repens", 4° album della band, in un modo per loro del tutto nuovo; nessuno studio professionale, nessuna sovra incisione, nessun suono artificiale: la band registra in una intensa settimana sessioni live nel proprio studio, il "Koan L Studio". Il risultato è un album senza fronzoli, diretto e d'impatto. La band è attualmente on the road per promuovere Agropyron Repens. Grunge/Crossover band from Switzerland
