About Kitsch

There are at least four bands named Kitsch. The first is a gothic rock band from Banyoles (Girona, Catalonia) founded in 1985 by Lluís Costabella and Joan Pairó. The second is a punk act from New Zealand. The third is a synthpop band from Sweden. The 4th is a pop-rock band from Italy based in London.

KITSCH (Catalonia):

- In 1985, Lluís Costabella and Joan Pairó create Kitsch in Banyoles -Girona- Spain.

- In 1986, Xicu Vilanova join the band.

- In 1987, Kitsch self-release their first demo-tape: Les mosques (The flies).

- In 1988, there will still be one more demo-tape: Capsa de trons (Thunderbox).

- In 1989, Bep Graboleda join the band.

- In 1990, the band sign their first contract with the record company Audiovisuals de Sarrià and Kitsch, their first album, is released, produced by Jaime Stinus in Cluster Studios in Barcelona. The videoclip of the single "Oració" (Prayer) is directed by Manuel Huerga and the videoclip of "Oració II" (Prayer II) by TV Girona.

- In 1991, Xicu Vilanova rejoin Kitsch and Kitsch II, the band's second record, comes out. It is recorded in Moraleda Studios in Barcelona and mixed at Bullet Sound Studios in Holland by Àlex Soler and John Sonneveld. The triple front cover is made by Lluís Güell. The videoclip of the song "Déu i el gos" (God and dog) is directed by Mai Balaguer and the videos of "Art de trair" (The art of betraying) and "Nocturn" (Nocturnal) by TV3 Televisió de Catalunya.

- In 1992, after a concert in Kremlin's Auditorium of Moscou (Russia), as guests of the goverment tv station Constantino TV, Kitsch publish their 3rd Lp: Kitsch III live, recorded on 21st february in Zeleste, Barcelona. The concert is issued also as a videotape including the former videoclips of the band.

- In 1993, Kitsch is near to play in China, but political problems made this impossible. Xicu Vilanova leave definitively the band and Kitsch decide to abandon Audiovisuals de Sarrià.

- In 1994, Kitsch record the song "Crisi" (Crisis), produced and mixed by Lluís Costabella and Rosky Ros in the Santuari Studios of Banyoles. This song is included in 5 anys de rock a Girona (5 years of rock in Girona).

- In 1995, record company Discmedi release Kitsch IV, another production done in the Santuari Studios of Banyoles and mixed by Rosky Ros and Josep Puigdollers in Pursa Studios of Vic .

- In 1996, record company Música Global release Kitsch V, recorded too in the Santuari Studios of Banyoles, but mixed in Música Global Studios of Girona by Kei Macías and Rosky Ros. The videoclip of the single "Al carrer llarg" (Long street) is directed by Xevi Canela and Xavier Pérez.

- In 1997, Kitsch play successfully in the Doctor Music Festival and present in the TMB of Banyoles their "1er curset d'iniciació al fracàs" (First course of initiation into failure), an spectacle audio-visual with a lot of unpublished songs of the band. Kitsch take part in the compilation Alter-tour'97 with a version of "Mala vida" (Bad life), a song of french group Mano Negra.

- In 1998, Sublim Records release "1er curset d'iniciació al fracàs", recorded in the Santuari Studios of Banyoles and mixed in Ariadna Studios of Sant Climent Sescebes by Rosky Ros and Jordi Gasull. The unpublished song "Le mal" (The damage) -an Arthur Rimbaud's poem- appear in the Cd "Propostes musicals banyoles 1" (Banyoles musical proposals 1).

- In 1999, Bep Graboleda leave the band.

- In 2000, guitar player Lluís Costa make one's debut with Kitsch in a concert in the TMB of Banyoles. In this occasion, Kitsch play news songs like "Oceà" (Ocean) and "El far" (The lighthouse).

- In 2001, Kitsch get ready this web site and the mail horafosca@hotmail.com.

- In 2002, Kitsch record and produce Kitsch 7 in Santuari studios of Banyoles and Studi studios of Salt. Marc Martí and his colleagues direct the video of "Oceà" (Ocean) and Àngel Abad join the band and works on Kitsch 8, issue in 2003.

- In 2003, Marc Martí and his colleagues direct the video of "Glaucoma" and the band record its last album: Kitsch 8, which appears in december.

- In 2004, Kitsch record the video of "Desdeny", directed by Marc Martí and his colleagues.

- In 2005, Kitsch edit two dvd's: "Kitsch en directe 1992" and "Kitsch en concert 2004" in the collection "Directament des de l'oblit"..

- In 2006, Kitsch edit in format CD/DVD "Kitsch Electrokàustic".

- In 2007, Kitsch present new band: David Zamora (guitar), Jordi Farreras (drums), Lluís Costabella (vox and guitar) and Joan Pairó (bass); and record new Cd, issue in 2008.

- In 2008, Kitsch edit with Laura R. Perkins records "Kitsch 10" , works with Marc Martí and his team the video from "Dominis" and performs his MYSPACE.
