About JME Strchild

JME Strchild is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and mix engineer. His funk/rock/soul stylings and penchant for self-production have earned him comparisons to Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder, and Prince. He was born Jaeme Brennan McDonald in Hartford, CT. His father, session musician Skip McDonald (Sugar Hill Records, Little Axe), brought him to many of his recording sessions and lit the spark for him to do the same.

After spending his teen years crafting solo demos in his bedroom, JME joined his first group, punk/funk/ska band Scumdumbone, playing gigs across his home state and gaining a reputation as a formidable performer. He relocated to London to learn studio technology at the famed On-U Sound recording facility owned by reggae/dub legend Adrian Sherwood. He continued to build his recording and songwriting skills, working with his father on the Little Axe album Hard Grind and touring as a band member. JME then returned to the U.S. and dove into his love of funky rock and soul, releasing projects Lovesexspirit (2004), Theraphsody (2007), Romantic Fantastic (2011), and La Séduction Du Coeur (2014).

His astute recording skills led to producing and mixing for others, working alongside bassist Doug Wimbish at his Nova Sound Studios. Releases include albums from Jean Marx Express (Earthdriver Records), Freekbass (Ropeadope Records), and Shade by Living Colour (Megaforce Records). He migrated to live production, working behind the scenes with B.B. King, Eddie Money, Peter Wolf, Janelle Monae, and many others, all while quietly earning his degree in Music Production from Berklee College of Music.

JME then performed in theater productions with the Connecticut theater group Capital Classics, composing and singing original songs in radio dramas and Shakespeare productions.

2023 brings everything full circle with the release of Lessons From The Prophet, nine songs loosely based upon the book by Kalihl Gibran. Each track is a stylistic world upon itself, all held together by soulful production that catches the ear and touches the heart.

“Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been mesmerized by music. I took every opportunity to be involved in what I love, whether playing multiple instruments, mixing in the recording studio, or performing live on stage. I've had the good fortune of interacting with many talented performers and am passionate about bringing new music into the world. I’ve synthesized my experiences into funky compositions that move and make your heart pulse a little deeper. Music is a great connector. I hope that the music on this page will connect with you.”
