About Jimetta Rose Music

Be sure to make a mental note of the first time you hear the name Jimetta Rose. It is a name you’re certain to hear again, and you will want to be able to tell your friends that you discovered her first. Over the past six years, Los Angeles native, Jimetta Rose, has become a mainstay in the Los Angeles independent music scene, and has dug firm roots in LA’s bourgeoning creative renaissance. Jimetta Rose’s music is not constrained by a rigid expectation of what art is, and she draws inspiration from jazz, R&B and Hip Hop—she’s been known to spit a verse or two when prodded. But the only word that embodies Jimetta Rose’s complex and mesmerizing sound is: soul. All aspects of Jimetta Rose’s music—from the unforgettable vocals, to the powerful lyrics, which range from enchanting to haunting and everything in between—speak from the soul, and the singular message is LOVE. Jimetta Rose’s music is a love letter to love itself, and an autobiographical testament to the healing power of it. With her talent, her style, and her dedication to unfiltered creative expression, it should come as no surprise that Jimetta Rose counts among her friends and colleagues, many of the most popular artists in the Los Angeles music scene,. To name a few: · Miguel Atwood Ferguson with whom she has performed several times, including in 2012, when she joined a collective of artists to pay tribute to Gil Scott Heron in front of thousands of fans as one of the featured summer Los Angeles Grand Performances; · In 2013 she worked with Med and Blu on “Burgundy Whip,” a classic LA summertime affair, produced by Madlib; · she also collaborated with The Decoders with whom she brought new life to Minnie Riperton’s classic, Reasons; · Jimetta Rose has also collaborated or performed with (or both) Alice Russell, Talib Kweli, Meshell N’Dgeocello, Erykah Badu, Joi Gilliam, Shuggie Otis, Zap Mama, Seu George, Shafiq Husayn, and the list goes on and on. When Jimetta Rose released her debut album, ”The Barber’s Daughter” in 2010, the whispers of “who is this Jimetta Rose?” became murmurs, and over time, the murmurs have become rumbles that are getting louder and louder. In 2013, Jimetta Rose wrote, produced, and starred in the sold-out musical stage production, Museum of Living Art through her theatre company, Nappy Nation Theatre Group. Now, she is working on her second solo album, “The Light Bearer,” which is executive produced by Georgia Ann Muldrow, and is slated for release on Some Otha Ship Records. Expect that with this release, the ever-increasing rumblings about Jimetta Rose will turn into a roar. You definitely don’t want to be the one caught sleeping on this California belle. LA based singer/songwriter. I make music. I paint pictures. I read and write stories. I live the love I seek. www.jimettarose.com
