About Jason Casterlin

Jason Casterlin has given the music-loving world Old Stone Church, a hooked laden collection of 11 songs that runs the gamut from windows-down Americana rock to Sun Studios-era country. Jason’s band, known as the Tall Boys, is a throwback to the heyday of Yoakam’s Babylonian Cowboys, that rare 5-piece outfit that can make you holler or make you weep from one track to the next. Guitars, pedal steel, keys, drums and bass complement Jason’s lyrics and voice the way a hand-picked band should. And bringing it all together is Engineering and Production by Paul Carabello (The Ataris), with Mastering by Sean Hansen (The Ataris). Much-anticipated and long-awaited, Old Stone Church released in the Summer 0f 2012 to a flurry, including at its two-night CD release party run at Billy Joe’s Ribworks – both nights of which were jam packed. Early at-show and online sales have been strong. Not surprising, as Jason has been a mainstay on the Hudson Valley live music scene for over decade – first in one of the region’s most beloved cover bands, Maria’s Basement, and then as a founding member of the alt.country band, The Woodcocks. Throughout his twenties, Jason sang lead and played rhythm guitar for the original act Maria’s Basement. The band eventually added some cover material to its set that leaned heavily into the rock and pop music of the 90’s that had inspired their own songs. To this day, club and bar owners approach Jason about having the band do one-off reunion shows (particularly their famed Thanksgiving Eve gigs; of which they’ve done a few) in the hopes of recapturing the large crowds and beer-hoisting good time vibes that were hallmarks of Basement gigs. With Jason on rhythm guitar and vocals again, this time with a touch more twang, The Woodcocks rose to local stardom. The band remains one of the Valley’s most memorable original bands for their deep Americana sound – impeccable guitar tones, and great singers who know how to craft a song. With his new solo career taking off fast, Jason has already shared the stage with The Violent Femmes, Dexter Freebish, The Spin Doctors, Seven Mary Three, Rusted Root’s Michael Glabicki, James Otto, Blue Oyster Cult, and country stars Jimmy Wayne, Easton Corbin, Billy Currington, Blackberry Smoke, Ryan Bingham, and Brooks & Dunn – having played the side stage at Bethel Woods for their Last Rodeo Tour. Old Stone Church is inspired by Jason’s life with his wife, their golden retriever, and the home they share on a hill overlooking New York’s Shawangunk Ridge. If there’s a setting suitable for a Yankee making country and roots music to sit and pick his Martin, well… that’s it. Look for Jason Casterlin & The Tall Boys in the Hudson Valley and surrounding region this fall. They can be heard on country radio – including Thunder 102 – and their music can be found on Amazon, iTunes, and many of the other usual retail suspects. Google them or just head to their website: www.JasonCasterlin.com. See you at a gig! Hudson Valley, NY!
