About Hunting The Robot

Unruly' ’Eclectic' ' Is that hair really necessary? ‘ Hunting The Robot is a young afro-indie rock band from Eindhoven, Holland. An EP (Our Ocean Is Illuminated) and a single (Get Pregnant) brought them to national TV shows (De Wereld Draait Door), national radio (3FM) and had them playing an endless amount of music venues, bars and living rooms. After an extensive writing and recording period, the band chooses 2014 as the year to shake The Netherlands and beyond. With a debut album released via Play It Again Sam, notable festivals such as Eurosonic/Noorderslag, fierce brass parts, tight percussion, African grooves and some critical acclaim it seems that Hunting The Robot is more ready than ever. What brought the band together in late 2009 was a fresh DIY attitude and fascination with sound, grooves and structure. Soon there was a home-recorded EP. Our Ocean Is Illuminated (2011) was unexpectedly hailed by many and the band drew attention through their energetic live shows. However, the taste of the band changed; the inspiration playlist that used to be full of bands like Bloc Party and Foals slowly got swallowed by Nigerian heroes such as Fela Kuti and bands like Yeasayer and TV On The Radio. The warm grooves were found. After a hectic 2011 Hunting The Robot retreated to work on their debut album. A successful crowdfunding campaign (2000 euros in donations in 4 days) gave the three men the opportunity to deepen their sound in their attic studio. In DIY tradition, Hunting The Robot chose to produce and record their debut album ‘Celebration Moderation’ themselves. The new sound of Hunting The Robot can be best described as Groovy Afro Indie Rock. As if Fela Kuti is jamming with TV On The Radio in New York. As if David Bowie is standing next to them and giving directions. As if Frank Zappa is playing with the guitar effects. As if Dr. John is watching it all happen with a big smile. Celebration Moderation is eclectic, rock with swagger, pointy lyrics sung with a heart out. Jasper van Vugt (music magazine OOR) says: ''The combination of indie rock, soul and African music has never sounded so natural, exciting and profound as with this trio.'' With this album Hunting The Robot is about to bring their audience to a point of complete submission. The afrobeat vibes will be even more uplifting live when the band will bring two saxophonists and a percussionist to the stage. It is time to come and move to this experience.
