Huanchaco

We are a Melbourne based World Fusion quartet playing a mix of different cultural sounds with a Latin undertone. We consist of voice, guitar, violin, flute and percussion.
Formed as a humble instrumental duo in 2010 by Daniel Dixon (Guitar) and Ben Hickling (Percussion), Huanchaco take a wide and open influence from many different styles and flavors of music and cultures experienced from travels to various corners of the globe.
Initially based in Auckland, Huanchaco made the move to Melbourne 5 years ago and since then have gone through a number of lineup changes now consisting of four core members.
Ximena Abarca: A Chilean born singer with a successful musical career already up her sleeve, Ximena interweaves lyrically poetic and melodic elegance.
Sharmila Periakarpan: A Malaysian Indian classically trained, Sharmila conveys her multi instrumental talents providing atmospheric and dynamic diversity.
Daniel J Dixon: A London born New Zealander, Daniel fuses a wide range of musical influences expressed through melodic and rhythmical progressive guitar playing.
Terry Law: A Hong Kong percussionist, with a love for travelling and music.

Huanchaco perform regularly in and around Melbourne’s many musical hubs, securing residencies at renowned venues and have played at multiple festivals including the Melbourne Spanish and Latin Festivals, Brunswick Festival, Sydney Rd Street Festival and Multicultural Express Festival.

In 2012 Huanchaco released the debut self titled EP with two supporting videos for the songs Amarna and Viracocha. This was followed on by Arrhythmia, 2015 and their latest EP
Communion, 2016. Exploring a more ethereal sound than in their previous album but still keeping the instrumental flavours of the first.

With two international tours in the works and a new album already in the making, Huanchaco are set to rise with the sun globally!

HUANCHACO

Huanchaco es un cuarteto musical formado en Melbourne Australia en el año 2012.

El trio esta compuesto por Daniel Dixon (Nueva Zelanda) en guitarra Flamenca, Sharmila Periakarpan (Australia) en flauta traversa y violin, Ximena Abarca (Chile) en voz y castanuelas y Terry Law en Cajon.

Sus raices son diversas y principalmente denotan la influencia multicultural de sus integrantes quienes mezclan diferentes ritmos latinos con sonidos del mundo. Sus letras abarcan tematicas con un marcado sentido social y existencial.

En Diciembre del 2016 Huanchaco lanzo su tercer disco de corta duracion titulado Communion en el cual exploran un sonido mas etereo al del disco anterior, Arrhythmia, 2015. Aun conservando sonidos de sus inicios como banda instrumental, registrado en el primer disco homonimo en 2012.

Desde su formacion la banda ha participado en Festivales musicales, bares, restaurants y mercados con musica en vivo en Melbourne, Sydney y Tasmania en Australia.
En Abril proximo Huanchaco visitara por primera vez Chile y esta en los planes visitar Europa en los meses subsiguientes.

Actualmente el trio trabaja en la grabacion del primer disco larga duracion y continuan con la promocion del EP Communion tocando regularmente en Australia.
