About Has-Lo

Hailing from the city of brotherly love, the Philadelphia based emcee/producer’s musical journey has been a slow burn. The first big break for Has-Lo was entering the 2007 MTVU Best Music on Campus contest. Full of talented artists, Has’ was a finalist for the grand prize, finishing in the top 5. Riding that momentum, he released his first solo project, F*ck Has Day. It was here that Has’ showcased his rhyming and production skills with classic tracks such as “The Usual Way,” “Unsigned Emcees,” and the humorous title track. It was truly an early indicator of how his career would go. Has-Lo’s dark RZA influenced beats and tales of loss and despair stand in stark contrast to his other side: acute humor and delivery of funny lines over bouncy upbeats tracks. It is this versatility that endears legions of fans. Has-Lo’s forward trajectory continued. Soon enough he dropped another EP titled Small Metal Objects. Crafted during a quick trip up north (upstate New York to visit friends, fools) the project showcased some of his deepest and nastiest production. The deep 808’s rumbling throughout “Ain’t Got It In Ya” resonated enough to be heard miles away. The EP also includes one of the most well received tracks of Has-Lo’s career, “The Quiet Things”, a scathing nod to a real life past relationship. It was accompanied by Has’ first video, a DIY production shot with his cell phone camera that soon became a viral hit. From there Has-Lo took a turn flexing his production muscles and dropped “You Can Live Thru Anything if Magic Made It” which saw him remixing some well known classics, as well as some underground staples. Shortly thereafter, Has-Lo began work on his seminal long player. In the Fall of 2010, Has-Lo signed with up & coming indie label Mello Music Group for his well received concept album “In Case I Don’t Make It”. The project is Has-Lo’s first official commercial release. The new album a dark journey through a mind at the tipping point. Filled with jarring imagery and moody production, the album has a cohesive sound that pulls the listener into a web of psychoanalytical & melancholy musings, lyrical exercises, & storytelling. "In Case I Don't Make It" is introspective without losing its raw edge. When acclaimed producer Oddisee listened to the project he commented that the album was “a beautiful new and dark twist on what we all know and love.” To date, Has’ has been glowingly covered in publications and websites like: XXL Magazine: Chairman’s Choice - April 2011 issue Pitchfork.com: http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/8743-you-can-find-this-on-the-internet-mixtapes-you-might-have-missed/2 Hiphopdx.com: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/editorials/id.1900/title.has-lo-school-of-conversation Has-Lo released a number of videos in support of his debut release “In Case I Don’t Make It” before teaming up with a production hit squad (which included the likes of Exile, J-Zone, Kev Brown, Oddisee and many others) for the remix album “Conversation B.” Currently Has is revving up for 2nd promo campaign which will culminate in the long awaited vinyl release of “In Case I Don’t Make It.” Videos: Has-Lo - Utero http://youtu.be/gnPwqszyxlY Has-Lo - Untitled #1 (Hold On) http://youtu.be/9u6ElGeYiJ4 Has-Lo - Limit http://youtu.be/m9UddmJ-EIg MC/Producer
