About Gods of war

What various websites had to say about our 2014 EP, 'Tales From the Dark Lands': 'With a powerful atmosphere that is as redolent of decay as Miss Havisham’s slowly rotting mansion, and a dark energy that is impossible to resist, you need to download ‘Tales from the Darklands’ without delay – music this good deserves to be heard.' -SonicAbuse ‘This is a spirited work by four lads who put great effort into making their sound stand out. Tales From The Dark Lands is a vigorously vibrant collection of multifarious styles that is simply one of the most enjoyable extreme releases you can treat yourself to hearing.’ –Michael Dodd, Blog of Putrefaction 'This is a good EP from Gods Of War, worth checking out for fans of extreme metal with something a little different to offer. It would be nice to see these guys head into the studio for a full album at some point!' –Chainmail Metal Reviews 'Gods of War are entertaining, raw and intricate enough to keep the hipsters away and keep this special for the genuine fans out there who desire the dark fantasy arts reminiscent of early 90’s UK black and folk metal music' -AveNoctum Gods of War is an extreme metal band from Liverpool, UK. Formed in 2009, the band has consistently defied subgenre classification, as their music takes influence from many metal subgenres, including black, death, power, thrash and folk metal among others. The band has undergone various lineup changes in recent years, resulting in changes in musical direction. While retaining the core elements of sinister black/death metal vocals and fast paced, thrashy drum beats, the music has taken a decidedly darker and more atmospheric direction in new tracks such as ‘Gods of Old’ and ‘Angmar’. The band released a three track demo in 2009 entitled ‘We March For Metal’ and a five track EP in 2011, ‘Litanies of War’, the 'Gods of Old' single on Halloween 2013 and 4 track EP 'Tales From the Dark Lands' in May 2014. Gods of War have gigged extensively all over the north west of England, in cities such as Manchester, Lancaster, Burnley and Chester as well as their hometown. The band have supported Arnocorps, DAM, Gaia Epicus, Hecate Enthroned and are billed to support Thurisaz. They made an appearance at 2013's Out of the Ashes Festival, alongside such bands as De Profundis, Northern Oak and Conquest of Steel, as well as appearing at 'Mosh Against Cancer' in Liverpool alongside such bands as Eastern Front and Lawnmower Deth. Gods of War have also been broadcast on a number of radio stations including TBFM, Infernal Rock Radio, Merseyside Metal Madness and Metal Kulture Radio. The band’s live performances have gained a positive reputation, earning excellent reviews from the metal blog ‘Pagan Hel Reviews’ as well as Phoenix Rising Magazine, and have earned them loyal fanbases in both Liverpool and Lancaster. The current lineup consists of Danny Hell on vocals, Kris Dobson on drums, James Collins on bass, Matt Hughes on lead guitar and Nick Wragg on rhythm guitar. The introduction of Jay and Matt has resulted in a much more diverse sound for the band, ranging from the fast, technical thrash of ‘Operation Engage’ to the more atmospheric, clean passages of ‘Gods of Old’ and ‘Angmar’, and Nick's introduction has seen the band take full advantage of a twin guitar setup. With fantasy based lyrics that take influence from history, literature and films, Gods of War’s metal assault is influenced by bands such as Ensiferum, Wintersun, King Diamond, Carpathian Forest, GWAR, Sodom and Stormwarrior. The band is currently working on new material for the follow up from 2014's 'Tales From the Dark Lands'.
