About Gil Perez

DJ, Producer and Pokémon Trainer (when not doing the first two). In 2000 curiosity about music and DJing grew strong on Gil when cereal boxes began giving away demos for Virtual DJ and eJay software. He then got more interested in the craft and starting DJing all over Portugal and producing his own tracks going by the name of DJ Bu5a (read Busa). His first ever release was by the hand of Pandora Digital records, a remix for his good friend DJ Lobo (also known as Arih Goldman) back in 2008. From this release many others followed including remixes for Xpress Funk, Hever Jara and Energy System. In 2010 Gil got the chance to remix Cabo Snoop's Worldwide hit "Windeck" with Arih Goldman. The reaction to the track was overwhelmingly positive getting support from huge names such as Massivedrum, Mastiksoul and Silvio Luz. The track was first released on Arih's label being then re-released by Vidisco and got to be part of more than 15 physical compilations. Few days after its release the track got to Top 30 of the Dutch online music store Dance-Tunes. Still in 2010 was the year Gil released his first single named Believe, the single had two original versions and included great remixes by artists like Franklin Rodriques, Smashing Sebastian (Defected), B Show, Andy and Sasha Avrosa. 2011 was a busy year, Gil worked on various original tracks, from the african and brazilian grooves of "Batucada", "Guerreiro" (with Silvio Luz) and "Tuesday in Brazil", to groovy basses and synths of "Trumpet Joker" and "Balança", not to mention collaborations with the portuguese MC Fredfox on a more vocal and melodic registry. All these tracks got several remixes from artists like Arih Goldman, Gil Monteverde and James Noyer. Gil also got invited to do remixes for artists like Franklin Rodriques (and his hit "African Force"), Pedro Diaz (MTV Portugal Artist), Gil Monteverde, B Show and Renato Xtrova. 2012 was marked by Gil reaching 4 labels' top on Beatport simultaneously with "African Flow" (Remix for Sevendeejay), Windeck (remix for Cabo Snoop), Levanta (remix for Sevendeejay and Meith) and "Guerreiro" (original with Silvio Luz) all hitting number 1 of their labels. Gil also got invited to remix MTV Artist Phill Kay and kept remixing tracks by Pedro Diaz. Working with a new team of MCs Gil got to release three new originals: "Balança" (with Puto Mira), "Anda Cá" (with MC Puto Mira and co-producer Meith) and Quero Ouvir (Barulho) (with MC MP and co-producer Meith). All got great support and the last two got their own Remix Contests receiving hundreds of submissions. 2012 was also the year that Gil played on one of Portugal's biggest stages: MEO Arena (Atlantic Pavilion at the time). The next year started great with Gil meeting the Kuduro crew Pupilos do Kuduro, together they worked on 2 original tracks: Confusão and Poperó (released on 2013) and 2 remixes: Pirulito and Tchilar (both released on Pupilos' first album in 2014). All tracks got a huge support got released on a series of physical compilations. Later that year Gil moved from Lisbon to London. In 2014 was also the year that Gil would see his first release on Gregor Salto's Moganga with "Kambada" (featuring B Show). Later that year Gil began embracing the idea of sharing his music with a larger audience giving away most of his work what resulted on more than 24 000 downloads on his Soundcloud page alone.
