About Fury and The Sound

Fury and The Sound is a project formed out of a group of musicians intent on creating honest, catchy, straightforward Rock and Roll. In an era of overproduced hipster band trainwrecks, Mumford knockoff bands, and EDM DJ’s, Fury has decided to go ahead and “reinvent the wheel” by providing simple, guitar-driven songs that dig their hooks deep into the soundtrack of your life. Fury and the Sound derived their name from the Faulkner novel The Sound and the Fury, relating their conviction that the classics are classics for a reason. The band’s songwriting is reminisce of 90’s and early millennial melodic rock. Consider Fury and the Sound to be “Coldplay with an edge” or to dive deeper and slightly more obscure, they have qualities similar to Snow Patrol, Jimmy Eat World, Death Cab For Cutie, Copeland, and Frightened Rabbit. Gene Francis provides lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and is the primary songwriter of the band. Francis once fronted the seminal rock band Further Seems Forever, replacing Chris Carrabba and superseded by Jason Gleason. His heaviest songwriting influences are Jeremy Enigk (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Fire Theft), Benjamin Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service), and David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, Headphones). Francis is joined by several great musicians. Patrick McCrary plays lead guitar as he continues to hone his tone with diligent precision. Kyle Laster plays lead and ambient guitar as he gets to branch out from his slightly heavier days in Yosemite Mudflap, Sons of God and Over The Earth. Also joined on occasion by post rocker Zac Hagerty of the instrumental band, Eager Seas. Taking turns on drums are Chase Salmons, who plays drums on the album and has also recorded with Greensboro many-piece, The Collection, and Joe Musten, from the bands Beloved, Advent and The Almost. Jake France of The Jake France Band plays bass and provides BGV’s. Fury and the Sound has won the heart of their local scene. Their debut album, Things We Understand, is due out in Fall 2014. They are as comfortable playing with fellow indie bands as they are playing with softer singer/songwriter acts all the way to metal and punk. Take this opportunity to give them a listen and book them for your gig or at your venue today! Fury and the Sound is a five-piece indie rock band from North Carolina featuring intricate guitars, unique rhythm and actual depth to vocals and lyrics.
