Four Times a Lady

In februari 2008 debuteerde Four Times a Lady met het befaamde Baltic Guitar Quartet. De toenmalige ladies waren Tania D’Hoest, Veerle D’Hoest, Sarah Vandendriessche en Leen Langenbick. Ze speelden samen een dubbelconcert in de Brugse Ryelandtzaal. In mei van datzelfde jaar waren zij te gast op ‘Klara in de stad’ in Izegem. Hun concert was live te beluisteren op de radio met werken van Patrick Roux en Francis Kleynjans. Daarnaast creëerden zij Summer Moon Dance van de Belgische componist Gilbert Isbin.
In 2011 verliet Sarah Vandendriessche het kwartet en vervoegde Willemijn Vermeir de groep. Ze brachten in November 2012 hun eerste CD “Here and Now” uit. In 2013 en 2014 waren ze te gast op het International Guitarsymposium Iserlohn in Duitsland waar ze verschillende gesmaakte concerten speelden. In 2015 concerteerde het kwartet ondermeer in het ‘Museo de Bellas Artes’ te Valencia, Spanje en in ‘Wasserburg Haus zum Haus’ in Düsseldorf, Duitsland.
In 2015 speelden ze op het examen kamermuziek voor Leen Langenbick en behaalden ze een Master in de kamermuziek met de grootste onderscheiding aan de Luca School of Arts, het voormalig Lemmensinstituut te Leuven. In datzelfde jaar speelden ze onder meer in het CC De Grote Post in Oostende. In januari 2016 traden ze op in een uitverkochte kamermuziekzaal van het Concertgebouw te Brugge. Daar creëerden zij Ficciones van de Vlaamse componiste Petra Vermote, gecomponeerd voor Four Times a Lady. Naast de vele concerten in culturele centra, waren ze gedurende hun negenjarig bestaan op vele plaatsen te horen tijdens kleinere evenementen, huiskamerconcerten, optredens voor verenigingen,… Dit laatste ligt hen heel na aan het hart door het intense warme contact met het publiek.
Begin 2017 beslisten Tania en Veerle D’Hoest het kwartet te verlaten en verwelkomden Willemijn en Leen twee nieuwe gitaristes, An Vlaemynck en Phyllis Demylle.
Alle vier volgden zij als solisten, maar ook als kwartet, tal van Masterclasses in Europa bij wereldbefaamde gitaristen waaronder John Dearman, William Kanengiser (Los Angeles Guitar Quartet), Jorge Caballero, Matthew McAllister, Alfonso Montes, Denis Azabagic, Eden-Stell Guitar Duo en Katona Twins.
In 2018 werkten ze samen met de beeldend kunstenares Emma Pollet en Hooman Jeddy die via video-installaties de muziek kracht bij zetten. De verschillende natuurelementen die aanwezig zijn in de muziek krijgen een extra dimensie door beelden toe te voegen. Ze waren opnieuw te gast op het Guitarsymposium te Iserlohn in de zomer van 2018 om er te concerteren en doceren.

Sinds september 2019 bestaat Four Times a Lady uit An Vlaemynck, Leen Langenbick, Lore Raus en Willemijn Vermeir.

Four Times A Lady’ s debut was in February 2008, when they gave a performance together with the leading Baltic Guitar Quartet. The then guitarists were Tania D’Hoest, Veerle D’Hoest, Sara Vandendriessche and Leen Langenbick. This first performance as a quartet took place in the Bruges Ryelandt concert hall. In May of the same year, the four ladies were guest performers at ‘Klara in de stad’ (Klara in the City) in Izegem. There was a live radio broadcast with compositions by Patrick Roux and Francis Kleynjans and the creation of Summer Moon Dance by the Belgian composer Gilbert Isbin.

In 2011, Sarah Vandendriessche left the ensemble and Willemijn Vermeir joined the ranks. Their first CD “Here and Now” was released in November 2012. They were invited to the International Guitar Symposium in Iserlohn, Germany in 2013 and 2014, where they gave a number of highly acclaimed concerts. In 2015, the quartet played in the Museo de Bellas Artes in Valencia, Spain and in Wasserburg Haus in Düsseldorf, Germany.

In 2015, Leen Langenbick took her Master’s Degree in Chamber Music summa cum laude with the quartet at the Luca School of Arts, the former ‘Lemmensinstituut’ in Leuven. Some of their concerts in the same year were given in De Grote Post, Ostend. Another famous concert was in the sold-out chamber music hall of Concertgebouw Brugge ( Bruges), where they created Ficciones by the Flemish composer Petra Vermote, a piece written for Four Times a Lady. Next to a large number of performances in various cultural centres, the quartet was heard in a variety of places at smaller events, house concerts and performances for several associations. The latter formula is especially dear to them as it allows for intense and warm contact with the audience.

When Tania and Veerle D’Hoest decided to leave the quartet early 2017, Willemijn and Leen were happy to welcome An Vlaemynck and Phyllis Demylle as the new guitarists. Both as a quartet and as individual performers they enrolled in master classes throughout Europe under world famous guitarists such as John Dearman, William Kanengiser (Los Angeles Guitar Quartet), Jorge Caballero, Matthew McAllister, Alfonso Montes, Denis Azabagic, Eden-Stell Guitar Duo and Katona Twins.
2018 will see the collaboration of the quartet with visual artist Emma Pollet, whose video installations reinforce the music. The natural elements represented in the music are given an extra dimension through moving images.
Once more, the quartet has been invited to the Iserlohn Guitar Symposium in the summer of 2018, where they will give concerts as well as teach.

Since september 2019 the quartet consists of Lore Raus, An Vlaemynck, Leen Langenbick and Willemijn Vermeir.
