ENGLISH Hey kid…kid with the red hair, hey you…how old are you? It’s NOFX’ Fat Mike asking a little kid with bracelets about his age at the Dutch Lowlands Festival in 2010 using him for his rude remarks for the rest of the show*. Well …little did Fat Mike know that this kid is one of the best upcoming bass players in The Netherlands. And little did he know that this kid was going to support him 2 years later at the Melkweg in Amsterdam. With Olivier taking over the drums from Smelly at a later show and Fat Mike not even noticing it. Revenge is a dish best served cold**. Together with band mates Sam (guitar and vocals) and Rogier (vocals and guitar) they are FEXET. Average age? 17 years old. Yes it’s true, but good God, playing with so much panache and skills, it makes you wonder what planet they come from. Bill Stevenson,(Descendents/All, Only Crime and Black Flag) noticed the band, happily sat down behind the mixing desk and couldn’t believe that these guys, with that age, where playing like that. FEXET’s upcoming debut album is called ‘Fexet presents The Airport Guys’ and the title refers to the band meeting NOFX at Amsterdam Airport. The result is a support slot on the NOFX show at the Melkweg, in Amsterdam the next day. From that moment on NOFX’ crew calls the band the “Airport Guys” FEXET’s debut album is produced by René van der Zee, singer and guitarist of veteran Dutch punk rock outfit Cooper.*** ‘Before we started recording the album, we worked months with René on crafting the songs we wanted to record, fine-tuning every riff and tune.’, says Olivier. Resulting in 30 minutes of sharp explosive material, fully packed with melodies and hooks. Being musicians with a solid musical education, the guys know exactly what they’re doing and how they want it. And so news travels fast….Kung Fu’s Joe Escalante’s surperior hearing noticed the band and immediately offers FEXET a contract. Resulting in a world-wide release in October 2014 on Kung Fu Records. DUTCH Fexet. Vier jonge gasten uit Den Haag die superstrakke punkrock spelen. Ondanks hun zeer jonge leeftijd klinkt Fexet opvallend volwassen Niet zo gek als je bedenkt dat hun platen gemixt worden door niemand minder dan Bill Stevenson, bekend als drummer van Descendents/ALL, Only Crime en Black Flag en van zijn producerswerk voor onder andere Rise Against en NOFX. Zo ook hun eerste volledige album ‘Fexet presents The Airport Guys’. Een titel die refereert aan een ontmoeting met hun grote helden NOFX bij de bagageband op luchthaven Schiphol. De ontmoeting resulteert in een supportplek voor de volgende dag in de grote zaal van de Melkweg in Amsterdam en een NOFX crew en band die Fexet The Airport Guys noemen. Behalve bassist Eelco. Die heet Gingerkid. En dat al sinds Lowlands 2010 waar hij het ‘slachtoffer’ wordt van Fat Mike’s sardonische humor*. Dus ver voor hun latere ontmoeting op het vliegveld. Toeval bestaat niet. Inmiddels is het bijkans traditie dat Fexet het voorprogramma is als NOFX een show in Nederland doet. Waarbij het zelfs kan voorkomen dat Olivier de drumstokken overneemt van NOFX drummer Smelly** Terug naar het album. DIY opgenomen in hun eigen oefenruimte onder leiding van producer/engineer René van der Zee (zanger/gitarist van het eveneens Haagse Cooper) en, als gezegd, gemixt door Bill Stevenson. “Voor we gingen opnemen zijn we maanden bezig geweest om de liedjes tot in de puntjes uit te werken.” Vertelt drummer Olivier Lucas. “Pas toen elk riffje, elk nootje en elk drumbreakje op de juiste plek zat hebben we microfoons voor de instrumenten geplaatst.”. Het resultaat is een half uur durende punkrock explosie vol melodie op het scherpst van de snede gespeeld. Dat laatste is niet zo raar als je bedenkt dat driekwart van de Fexets muzikaal zeer geschoold zijn, tot aan het conservatorium toe. Dit alles kwam ook een andere Amerikaanse punk rock held ter ore: Joe Escalante, bassist van hardcore punk rock pioniers The Vandals. En laat hij nu net zijn eigen label, Kung Fu Records, hebben en de heren een contract aanbieden. Nogmaals, toeval bestaat niet en dus komt ‘Fexet presents The Airport Guys’ in september 2014 wereldwijd uit op het label waar eerder Blink 182, The Vandals en The Ataris hun platen op uitbrachten.
