About Face The Lights

Since January of 2012, Face the Lights has carved a pathway to success through downtown Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Temple and San Marcos. A foursome of forward-thinking and hardworking individuals, Face the Lights encompasses a wide array of music genres in their music catalogue but progressive/melodic metal are the most prominent sounds you will hear from them. They have been hard at work at Mesa Recording Studios finishing up their newest untitled album. They are planning on a fall 2014 release. Life, struggles, resolutions and death are what vocalist Colin "Ace" Benedict finds most intriguing to write about, but the writing process doesn't stop there. All four members are actively involved in writing the songs which they take very seriously. In April 2009, Fernando experienced a suicide from a friend/former bandmate that completely changed his perspective on life. "The time is now to get things done" He said in 2009. "When my friend passed away, I went to his funeral and his burial. As they lowered his casket into the ground, I grabbed some guitar picks out of my wallet as I stood there, sobbing. I dropped three to four of my used guitar picks into his gravesite and ever since then, an open channel of constant inspiration and creativity has been activated in my mind. I don't know how else to explain it, but it's as if he's in a parallel dimension, feeding me information that I didn't know existed [musically]." In December of 2009, Fernando (guitar) and Erik (drums) started the band after connecting through a social media website dedicated to uniting musicians/bands. They had both written songs that they wanted to take to the big stage, but needed more bandmates to do so. They soon trekked to Austin from their hometown of San Antonio and met Ace. They officially formed the band in November of 2010, but found their true sound as "Face the Lights" in January 2012. Their previous moniker was "Rabble Magus" from 2010-2012, but they decided to change their name to a more recognizable one. They met their bassist, Calibur Clark after one of their shows at the Red Eyed Fly. He was excited, enthusiastic and he was the last piece to the puzzle in completing their sound. They have played over 60 shows in 5 cities but they have not over-saturated their market in any way. Demand for their new music is growing and they are looking forward to delivering to their fans on all levels. They won their local battle of the bands competition in November, 2012 and placed third in the finals from the same competition in May, 2013. They recorded their first EP at Mesa Recording Studios with engineer/producer Rob Hinton who has worked on projects for Korn, Tom Morello (from Rage Against The Machine), and most notably Michael Jackson. "Rob is a great guy to have in the studio because he actually cares about what he's working on, as well as you as a band/musician." Fernando said. "He has helped us speak, listen and think [musically] in ways no other industry professional can. We trust his process and are lucky to have found this sleeping giant." Their new album is currently being mastered and will be released by fall 2014. The recordings of the band and mixing/engineering/editing/mastering all took place at Mesa Recording Studios by Rob Hinton and Skunk Manhattan.
