About Estados Alterados

Estados Alterados is a Colombian band from Medellin. It was formed in the late 80's by singer Fernando Sierra (Elvis), keyboardist Tato, and drummer Mana, who unfortunately passed away after a car accident, being replaced by Ricardo Restrepo, aka Ricky. The band played electronic music, drawing influence from bands such as Depeche Mode. It was an important band in Colombia as it delved in electronic music, not characteristic in any bands from Colombia at this time. The band first hit was the song Muevete, very popular in Colombia, featured on the band's self-titled debut album. The band joined similar Latin rock acts in 1999 to make a Cure tribute album called "Tributo a the Cure - Por Qué No Puedo Ser Tú," covering "A Forest."

This group (along with Bajo Tierra, Ekhymosis, and others) is one of those that in the early 90's began to take Colombian Rock in new directions.

The video for the song "El Velo" was the first video on MTV for a Colombian band in the late 80's. At one point the band was compared to Duran Duran in its pioneering use of videos among its peers.

The band went in a different direction in the late 90's, ultimately disbanding after recording an unreleased 4th studio album. A brief follow-up effort, Supervelcro, was co-founded by Tato in the early 2000s, who later left the band after it's 1st album ("Luciferina").

In 2007, the band's original line-up re-united and has played a few shows in Colombia. They were taped to open for both Lenny Kravitz and Nine Inch Nails shows in Bogota, but didn't due to both acts canceling their Colombian appearances.

The band is currently in the studio finalizing its long overdue follow-up album.
