About DJ Tonk

Dj TONK, which actually stands for The One Named Kyle, started djing in the summer of 2012. He had always liked listening to Dubstep and actually was inspired to learn to dj by the group Slashsoundz at Cool Carnival Sundays or CCS. Under the wing of Kofi Jones(Dr Foki) he learnt the basics of mixing and transitions on a Numark Total Control(the basic of basics!) and from there started streaming online for other fans of dubstep on twitter and facebook. After a few weeks of that he joined Slashsounds on their online radio show Slash Hype Wednesdays and started to learn other genres such as rap, soca and dancehall. Realising he had a potential new talent in his hands he practiced daily to hone this talent and become better. Dj TONK made his first appearance at CCS later that summer and after that..decided that this was no longer a hobby for him. However, he didn't want to be known as just another soca and dancehall dj in barbados, he still wanted to play electronic music for the people that were there for him when he first started out. That's when he linked up with Jason Edey(Jaseone) and Prince Bazawule(D'Ankh) at Sunset Bass. After sending a couple demos he had his first electronic gig there and had a blast. Since then Dj TONK has played at several of the Sunset Bass events and has even been the headline DJ for a few of them. Between that time, he met Matthew Karp(Karpologist) who for him was like an idol as Karp was and still is the main dubstep go to guy on the Barbados scene. TONK learned some tips from Karpologist on mixing as well and took them on to further improve his mixing abilities. Since then Dj Tonk has been featured twice on Karpologist's show The Apollo on Mix96 FM and has played at events with Dj's such as Puffy, Infamous HD and K9 International and Dj Cyclone. He has also been fortunate enough to meet personalities such as Jus Jay and is always keen to pick up tips from them to improve his djing. In 2014, he won a spot on Hott 95.3's radio show entitled 'Gridlocked' which was a huge achievement for the still young DJ.He plans to use this to catapult himself even further forward in his career as he makes his move towards the top. Upcoming Dj from the lovely island of Barbados and current resident of The Old Jamm Inn in St. Lawrence gap
