About DJ Geoffrey Fox
Geoffrey Fox, House music DJ & California Native, has had a passion for music his entire life. Starting at an early age started on the violin at age 7 and took up playing Alto & Tenor Sax when he turned 10 absolutely falling in love with jazz and big band styles which later played a major role into his love of house music. He continued playing tenor saxophone through high school and had the honor of playing 1st chair at the famed Carnegie Hall in NYC during his junior year. He still plays today where his love for concert, jazz, big band translated into a deep love for house music which remains his favorite style thanks to its soulful beginnings that pull from the same instruments he grew up being surrounded by like piano, bass guitar, trumpet, sax, etc. Attending his first rave thrown by Insomniac Events, "Nocturnal" back in September 2008 became a defining moment in his life. Immediately loving and identifying himself in every principle the rave scene was founded for (plur) he explored the communities many musical offerings and in 2009 he put his classical music training to use and picked up DJing when the opportunity of a lifetime presented itself. He took up DJing in march 2010 when he released a mixtape he recorded using free software that he mixed with his first ever midi controller. He got compliments mostly on his song selections which were ahead of their time remix's he found online but were still just mostly from friends that were being polite either out of pity or spite believing he was wasting his time and needed to grow up. But he pressed on recording another mix in April 2010 which was vastly improved while still having an ear for a rare and great track. Promoters got ahold of the mixtape that month and by may he was playing his first ever show on the main stage of Micky's in West Hollywood at the age of 19 and still boasts about holding the record for youngest DJ to ever "sneek" past security at the 21+ venue. That night was iconic and the best show an aspiring DJ could ever ask for. A long time house music inspiration showed up in a RARE appearance at the club on Santa Monica blvd that night, DJ Dan. Dan, LA local was a BIG DJ in the rave scenes early boom during the 90's and unlike many DJs from back then Dan was able to adjust with the ever growing scene and remains a staple of California house music today. Although they had never met, a DJ friend who knew Dan made sure to introduce them after the set. Geoffrey and his inspiration met and shared a glowing conversation in which Dan encouraged Geoffrey to continue to pursue his passion and instilled some lasting words when he told Geoffrey to not allow himself to be discouraged from the opinions of others about his love of music or DJing and instead use the negative energy to better hone his skillset and love for the music. His set was a little rocky but song selection was cutting edge and although happy with the overall outcome Geoffrey Fox knew this was only the beginning and he had a lot of work to do.
Now a word from him.
Hey there, thanks for reading my history and the great impact music has had on my life. Back in the beginning, time was in extremely short supply having to juggle minimum wage jobs while pursing a DJ career meant long nights at clubs making myself known only to be back at work tired, drained, and to be honest, uninspired. Today is June 16th 2017, on a personal level I reached a milestone last month in my DJ career. for the first time since I began DJing 7 years ago, I was able to quit my day job. It was something Ive only dreamed of and for most of my career didn't think would be possible. It was stressful as well as a risk to do so but having been a month since the weight of my day job is gone and it feels AMAZING. I have been diligently working hard on my career since about may 2016 and it feels so good that my hard work is paying off to a point where I do not need to work a day job to support my passion any longer. now my day job IS my passion. its hard work but I love what I do and will keep pushing myself to take my career to new heights and explore new directions and ideas. thanks for reading and #forfoxsake... #stay tuned!
