About Derick Sebastian

A quiet thunder fuels the humble spirit and powerful expression of ‘ukulele virtuoso Derick Sebastian, producing a sensational talent with a natural ability to captivate the soul through the glory of his music and grace. A devout artist from the beautiful island of Maui in Hawai‘i, Derick is a special musician that touches the lives of so many with careful consideration of his craft, extending his love of the instrument as an entertainer, singer/songwriter, storyteller, educator and role model, striving to be a guiding light for those searching for purpose. Through the ‘ukulele, he’s realized that he can not only inspire, but also truly express his deepest emotion and work diligently to honor the God-given talent he realized as a restless youth searching for fulfillment in a world of uncertainty.

Through faith and perseverance, Derick continues to fulfill his dreams as an accomplished ‘ukulele artist and international sensation. His critically-acclaimed instrumental album, From His Heart, scored a Na Hoku Hanohano nomination in 2010, he’s played alongside ‘ukulele ace Jake Shimabukuro and warmed up the Castle Theater for R&B stars like Brian McKnight and Boyz II Men. Derick has also opened for modern country music marvels Sara Evans and Thompson Square, the electrifying world renowned Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, and shared the stage with Grammy-winning artist Jason Mraz, making his ‘ohana proud with an exhilarating performance at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s packed concert.

Derick and his uke have also charmed professional sports avenues like MLB, NBA, PGA, NCAA, ESPN and EA SPORTS, with events in Hawai’i and across the Mainland. He's reached the stars performing the National Anthem for the LA Lakers & Cleveland Cavaliers at Staples Center in front of a sold out crowd of 19,000 plus fans. He made history as he became the first ever ukulele player to perform the National Anthem at a Lakers Home game at Staples. The performance immediately went viral not only throughout his home state Hawaii, but globally and across the nation's sports world. Derick's anthem rendition was then featured and became a 30-second highlight clip on ESPN SportsCenter...Derick's childhood dream finally became reality.
He’s completed projects with PIXAR Animation, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, and his music graces films such as Hollywood’s Life’s An Itch and Germany’s Behind the Rainbow. Derick’s appearance on E! Entertainment Television’s Total Divas earned his art unique exposure with the popular reality show, which resulted in multiple deals to place his music on the network.

Drive, determination and success has taken Derick international in recent years, including full-fledged tours throughout Australia, Thailand, Philippines, Korea, China and Europe.

The journey has breathed many wonderful opportunities as he was a featured speaker/performer at TEDx Santa Cruz and became the ‘ukulele instructor for the distinguished Andaz Maui at Wailea. His latest releases include mentor tribute His Glory, and an exclusive Hyatt Andaz album Welcome Home, which features new releases Taro Patch and Hope For The Island.
Derick experienced the thrill of performing alongside legends Mick Fleetwood and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, and was invited by Oprah Winfrey to her Maui home to perform and teach a private lesson with friends and youth through Mele ‘Ukulele. It was a huge honor to share his ‘ukulele with Oprah as he’s long admired the loving luminary.

While garnering these many feats, Derick remains humble and honest in his pursuits. He is the real deal when it comes to sincere musicianship and performance prowess. His loyal ‘ukulele breathes of Aloha with each heartfelt composition he shares and the organic, blissful reverberations that sing from his strings deliver honest sensations discovered rarely in today’s music. He remains passionately dedicated to inspiring lives through his calling, and is very grateful to impact the world with the pure sounds he evokes through the ‘ukulele… STOP. UKE. LISTEN!
