About Brandon Gunter

Though he first discovered his love for music at 7 years old, it’s taken Brandon Gunter some time to come into his own. Today, Brandon is only looking one direction, forward. The singer/songwriter, who released the fourth album of his career, “Seek and Hide” in February says, “For the first time in my life, I truly believe in my talent and am fully owning myself. I know that “singing/songwriting” isn’t just what I do, it’s who I am, and there’s a big difference.” His music career had been in hiatus since 2005, but ever since he launched a Kickstarter campaign last October to raise funds to make the new album, he’s been in high gear. He’s been playing gigs in Atlanta, where he currently resides, and is kicking off a promotional tour in Nashville on March 8, followed by dates in Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Orlando and more. He’s also signed on with two companies to promote his music to radio, TV and film, Wavelength Radio Promotions and Crucial Music. Born and raised in a little place called North, SC., with a population 800 (Brandon says it might be up to 1000 by now), he wrote his first song at 12 for a school contest. The song, “Wonders of the World,” went all the way to a State competition. As a kid who never quite felt like he fit in and certainly didn’t fit the mold of what a small town southern boy was supposed to be, this experience gave him a sense of identity and a newfound confidence. He started exploring music and his faith more deeply, eventually recording and releasing a contemporary Christian album, “Compassion’s Cry,” at 15. He began to tour extensively in the South, and by 18 had moved to Nashville to attend college and make music. It took seven years for Brandon to release a second album. Fresh out of a breakup from what he calls his “first significant relationship,” he wrote and recorded, “War About Love,” in 2002. It made some noise in Nashville, receiving attention and leading him to be named “Artist of the Month” in the May 2003 issue of Music Row Magazine. At this same time Brandon’s mother became very ill so he wasn’t able to follow up on its success. Instead, he packed his bags and headed back home to South Carolina to help care for her. He found himself working at his dad’s pharmacy and buying a practical house in his hometown. His momentum in music seemed like the distant past, his confidence lost. He found himself depressed and coping in ways that deepened that depression. It took a move to Atlanta to put him back on the right path. In 2009 he enrolled in a graduate program at Emory University and began to intentionally address the things that had plagued and hampered his life for so many years. Slowly, over the next few years, his love and passion for music and his desire to live a creative life began to reawaken. Finally, in May of 2012, despite the stress of unemployment and job searching, a new romantic relationship began that inspired new ideas and melodies, which slowly became new songs. By June 2013, the new songs came in an avalanche, surfacing after 8 years of dormancy, wanting to be heard. The result is “Seek and Hide.” While it’s been a long road, Brandon feels unstoppable. As a songwriter, as a singer, as a recording artist, as a performer, as a human being – he’s ready to be heard and live out the life that he had only glimpsed before. To make sure it happens, he’s packing his bags yet again in May, headed back to Nashville. This time, he says, “I’m ready.” Brandon Gunter is a singer, songwriter and recording artist out of Nashville, TN. Follow Brandon here, at brandonguntermusic.com, on Twitter @bguntermusic
