About Bowcaster

A long, long time ago... at a practise space in East Brunswick... It is a period of despair – The Galactic Empire (ie: mediocre State Government) has been pretty much ruining it for everyone. Venues are closing, the price of blue milk has skyrocketed, excessive music downloading and a copyright has about as much value as a warehouse of scratched compact discs. From this chaos and desperation BOWCASTER was born. Dissatisfied with the claustrophobia and having consumed all known forms of local inspiration, the rebellious Canberrans – Ross Caddaye (guitar), Franc De Alvia (drums), Cameron Mayne (keyboards) and Pete Saladino (guitar/vocals) – packed their blasters and moved to Melbourne, spurred by a new hope. Following the final demise of the misunderstood noise rock outfit, BRISK, plans are made and riffs are written for a new band: BOWCASTER. Hoping to focus and simplify their previous sonic attempts at rebellion the four quickly begin to construct speeder-paced rock songs of unlimited power. Enter rebel scum Alex Taubert, infamous for his exploits in Brisbane’s MAINSTAY and FROM THESE WOUNDS, to complete their sonic devastation with the addition of thundering bass guitar. Bored of the pathetic introspection of his early twenties and the unfathomable desire to combine sci-fi noise rock with folk song lyricism, Saladino casts his personal emotions aside and begins to craft anthems for the masses, using the STAR WARS legend as a vehicle. Known throughout the galaxy as one of the greatest sagas ever - with life time fans and so much respect that even the release of three questionable prequels can’t alter the sway of STAR WARS’ timeless message - making it the perfect chariot to be combined with BOWCASTER’s upbeat noise rock. Not only do the words of the songs attempt to place everyday issues in an interstellar guise, the riffing and rhythm themselves are always inspired by emotions running through the original trilogy. Think artists like: Shellac, Snapcase, The Bronx, Breach, Hot Snakes and Cult of Luna all in a cinema paired with song titles like Thermal Detonator, Kashyyyk and Your Fleet Is Lost – this is will give you an idea of the sci-fi rock fury that is BOWCASTER. BOWCASTER have now shared the stage with Australian noise rock and metal Jedi Masters The Nation Blue, The Abandonment, Robotosaurus, Useless Children, Akaname and others. BOWCASTER have also been invited to share the stage with internationals Zeni Geva (Japan), Monarch (France), Rosetta (USA), Graf Orlock (USA) and The Network (USA). Two of our tracks, Tauntaun and Thermal Detonator, will be released as a double A-side 7” in early 2011. A full length album is also in the preparatory stages of recording. Bowcaster are looking for a home for their records, and anyone who thinks they can book them on Comicon, or at least on Armageddon. We tear peoples' arms out of their sockets when we play live.
