About Boogaloo! Monthly Party In NY

About Latin Boogaloo music Latin Boogaloo is the sound that brought together many races and cultures, and sprang from the street corners, the transistor radios, pool halls and the clubs of mid 1960s Spanish Harlem in NYC. You know the sound once you hear it: “Watermelon Man," “I Like It Like That” or "Bang Bang" - these songs are all classics that have been loved for decades. The roots of Latin Boogaloo go back to 1960s New York, where Soul, Rhythm & Blues and AfroLatin rhythms mashed together in Harlem clubs to give birth to the musical form. The history of this sound was controversial, as it ushered in a musical revolution on radio stations and in clubs when the new generation started tuning in to this new sound. The wave lasted for six years, until in 1970, when producers, latin legends and record labels began to veer away from latin boogaloo, and the sound disappeared from the Big Apple. But the success of boogaloo was so big outside the US, especially in Latin America, that it experienced a resurgence in countries such as Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela, as well as in some parts Europe and Africa. Latin Boogaloo has returned to the musical forefront once again with new revival over the past few years around the world with bands and djs embracing the sound and bringing it back for new generations.
