About Amy Wadge
Amy comes originally, from Backwell, a little village just outside Bristol. She started song-writing at the age of nine, originally on the family piano. When she was 11 her parents found a guitar in a junk shop, brought it home and Amy taught herself to play along to Tracy Chapman’s debut album. It was then she discovered a passion for the guitar. While still at school, she regularly gigged around Bristol’s celebrated and numerous music venues. At the age of 14 Amy signed her first record deal with her band ‘Two Of A Mind’ and released her first single at the age of 16. Amy started performing at Open Mic sessions in Cardiff’s Toucan Club and soon started developing a fan base and gaining critical recognition. Amy signed with a small independent Cardiff label, “FFVinyl”, who were also doing A&R work for the BBC, seeking out local acts for the 2001, “Radio 2 Music Live” week in Cardiff. She got a slot on the Janice Long, late night session at Clwb Ifor Bach and was heralded as one of the week’s highlights. The set being broadcast in its entirety that night. Amy was voted Best Female Solo Act at the 2002, Welsh Music Awards, seeing off a challenge from Charlotte Church. 2003 saw Amy take the Best Female Solo Act title for the second year running, this time ahead of Cerys Matthews. Amy has also recorded two further albums; “Woj”, (2004) and “No Sudden Moves”, (2006).
