About Amy Atchley Music

Original music from Austin, TX. Ethereal vocals and catchy melodies with pop, indie rock, folk, and classical influences. "... angelic voice, infectious songs." Hits Magazine Now is the time to learn more about Amy Atchley, because you certainly know her work — in addition to her previous solo albums and stints in critically-acclaimed Austin groups Fabu and Hush, she can be heard on jingles used in national ad campaigns for Disney, eBay, the NY Lottery, and more. On her new record Where You Go, which is scheduled for release on April 1, 2014, Atchley delivers expertly crafted indie pop reminiscent of Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles. Born and raised in Houston, Atchley is now based in Austin after four years spent honing her skills in New York City at legendary venues like CBGB’s Gallery, The Bitter End and The Living Room. A graduate of the University of Texas’ School of Music, Atchley draws upon a number of influences ranging from classical music to Radiohead. Her backing band, which includes cello and ukulele (Atchley contributes on piano and guitar), is versatile enough to incorporate all of Atchley’s varied influences, resulting in an infectious indie pop sound that is fronted by Amy’s ethereal soprano. Her first album since 2009’s Pretty Muse, Where You Go was funded through a Kickstarter campaign thanks to a legion of devoted fans. The seven tracks from Where You Go, all originals, transport listeners to different scenes, whether it’s the cobblestoned streets of Paris conjured up by lilting ballad “Raincoat” or the dark world of addiction portrayed on “Way Out.” “Steal Me” was the inspiration behind the entire album. Its Cocteau-Twins-meets-The-Police sound effortlessly captures the effervescent rush of new love, while “Sway,” with its thumping percussion and dreamy vocals, is an epic love song that recalls Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me.” The title track — which Atchley wrote for her two young daughters when she was away from them for the first time — is the album’s most personal moment, one that will resonate with anyone who has ever had to leave someone they love behind, as Atchley promises, over cello and piano, “I’m always gonna love you.” She explains, “Sometimes I can barely perform the song because it makes me cry!” That personal touch carried over to the recording process, both drums and piano (a 1927 baby grand Steinway that was used to write many of the songs for this album) were tracked in Atchley’s own home. Perhaps this was an unusual choice, but those two instruments serve as the record’s backbone, giving the music a moody, yet irresistible vibe. With a new album ready to make its entrance onto the indie scene and a string of upcoming performances, Amy Atchley’s life is rather hectic. But in the midst of that joyful chaos, one thing’s for sure: listeners who join her musical journey on Where You Go are in for an exciting ride.
