About Alix Williams

Alix’s voice, astonishingly soulful for one so young, is matched only by her compositional skill. Along with the surprising maturity of her musicianship and vocal ability, Alix’s lyrics demonstrate the wisdom of one who has lived with sorrow and embraced hope. "Are you afraid to feel the weight of all you've been through?" ~ The Curse With her first EP, Alix showcased her songwriting and vocal range, moving effortlessly between the evocative “Losing the War” to the whimsical “You Make My Day.” Throughout, she displays a perceptive depth that would be remarkable in an artist twice her age. Alix Williams was born in Flint, Michigan and grew up in the small town of Birch Run. Music was a constant in her home from the beginning. “I like the awkwardness of having grown up with a mom who loved Whitney Houston, Prince, The Doobie Brothers, and Eddy Grant, and then a dad who listened to Devo, White Stripes, CCR, Talking Heads and Daniel Johnston.” She credits her exposure to a great diversity of music for helping her to develop as a songwriter and performer. Like all musicians, Alix is first and foremost a music lover. “Thriller was the first album I ever owned and I played it over and over on my little walkman CD player when I was only five years old.” Her musical awakening occurred when she was fourteen years old. “That's when I first heard Brandi Carlile and a whole new world of Cash, Dylan, Cline, John Prine, CSN, Elton John, and so many others opened up to me. I found the meaning in those songs that I was really looking for and I found a sense of deep comfort and emotion that I didn't get with the teenybopper stuff other kids were listening to at the time.” When she was thirteen, her family moved to San Antonio, Texas. “When we got here, we didn’t have any of our furniture, which my dad brought later, and I spent all my time in a room with beige walls with just a blanket, pillow and my guitar.” She soon started writing songs and, very tentatively at first, to sing. “For a while I sang in my closet just because I didn’t know if I even could sing.” Before long, Alix began performing at local music venues and the response was overwhelmingly positive. With her father, Stephen Williams, she recorded the songs released on her first, self-titled EP, playing acoustic and electric guitar, drums, ukulele, mandolin, bass and “anything else that needed to go into it.” A night owl, Alix admits she has seen more sunrises after a long night of composition than she has upon waking up. “My circadian rhythm is a little screwy. All the songs on my EP were written or partially written at 3 in the morning.” Alix is committed to the cause of Marriage Equality and is a strong Animal Rights advocate. She also has a large collection of stuffed animals, all with proper first and last names.
