Alex Elbery and The Strangers

Born and raised in the hills of Perth, Western Australia; Alex Elberyǯs relationship with music began at age 5 when he first picked up the fiddle. A short time after he found his true element in performance when, at a recital, a music tutor mistakenly sent him on stage to perform a piece with far more advanced students; a piece he had never heard, let alone played. Rather than derail the flow, Alex took a deep breath and did his best to find a groove and blend in. From that point in, Alex was fearless, raw and wide open when it came to being on stage. At 11 he formed his first rock band, having put down the fiddle in place of an electric guitar, a red bandanna and black nail polish. For the next few years he cut his baby teeth playing high school lunchtimes, community fares and battle of the bands. At 15, Alex began performing his own songs in bars and at open mic nights under the moniker Stereoflower. It didnǯt take long before heǯd found himself a band and was being booked to support some of the finest acts in town including Abbe May, Timothy Nelson, Tame Impala (or the Dee DeeDums as they were then known), Kim Salmon (The Scientists) and The Middle East. In 2010 Stereoflowerǯs debut album ǮItǯs Alright, Itǯs Ok, Satellite Commanderǯgarnered shining reviews, and radio play on community stations around Aus and US. In 2011, they played the Big Day Out festival. Alex went on to form Mulder, with childhood friend Owen Rabbit. The two honed their theatrical stage show and unique brand of weirdo electro pop, while garnering positive reviews and some impressive supports including Nai Palm (Hiatus Kayote), Flume and Six60. They toured extensively around AUS and overseas before relocating from Perth to Melbourne to pursue their respective solo careers. Lately, Alex has been honing his craft, releasing an EP (accompanied by limited edition comic book) and playing extensively around Melbourne and interstate with backing band The Strangers. Early 2017 will see the release of his debut solo album, currently being forged with producer Jon Grace at Studios in The City.
